Today was the beginning of our 6 trip through norhtern Spain. We arrived in Leon, checked ito our hotel and then set out to visit the sites. We visited some old buildings, one of my favorites being the one with the guy stepping on the lizard (really it's a saint slaying a dragon). We were walking through the city when, BAM! this amazing cathedral popped out of nowhere. The streets are all small and it's easy to get suprised by beauty so fast. The stain glass windows were gorgeous, the building itself was just breathtaking. I'm amazed by it's hidth and gothic beauty. It has given me so much more appreciation for the history and culture. We ate at a cafe (we had to wait until 8:30 for resurants to open up!!) and had tapas, or little side dishes that comewith a drink for free. At night the cathedral was lit up and seemed even more magnificent.

We traveled to Covandonga in Austurias and saw a cave where Pelayo held off the Muslims (I think) and started the Christian reaquisition of Spain. Next we went to a beautiful resort town called Ribadesella where we were able to go and play in the ocean. It was raining and the surf really wasn't that great, but it feflt so good to feel a little bit at home bouncing in the waves.

The next couple of days we traveled to some prehistoric caves, including altamira. There we were abe to see a bunch of caves drawings and learn a lot (ok, too much) about our cave dwelling ancestors. The art itself was neat. We also went to Bask country and staid in Bilboa. They we went to a fabulous Museo called Guggenheim. There are a total of 5 Guggenheims in the world. It was a very impressive modern structure and presentation of art. We finally arrived home Sunday night (we attended church locally in Burgos that day) and started right back up with school on Monday.
